Making Your Site Fit For Search Engines

Making Your Site Fit For Search Engines

Usually people new into making their own websites have the problem of how they can gain an audience using Search Engines. Major Search Engines include Google, Yahoo and MSN. These are the one that can drive a good amount of visitors to your site.

Inclusion in Search Engines
If your site is not there at the moment included in the search engine, it could be due to the fact that there is not any other site pointing to it. Therefore the search engine is not aware that your site exists. To make the search engines aware of your site existence, you need to add your url into their database. This is done by a submit page.
Add URL in Google
Submit to MSN
Submit to Yahoo
Although there are many more search engines, they are not recommended and won't help you gain a significant amount of traffic.

Search Technology
What happens is that every search engine has created a piece of software to scan all webpages. They are usually referred to as "BOTS" accessing your site as the process is automated. This data is stored on their Data Center. Whenever you search this processed data is ranked according to algorithm employed by the Search Engine. The basis of ranking of a site in search engine is the number of links it receives from other sites. Also the text on the site and the text compared to sites it links to and receives from are responsible. There are many other factors.
The search technology is mostly limited to text on your site. Progress has been made in including other formats like pdf and flash into search results.
